Hot news from the Wahoos!

Team Members,

On behalf of the Executive Board, I would like to apologize for the events at our last gathering on Sunday (3 August 2008).  The primary purpose of the gathering was to spotlight the swimmers—our children—and their accomplishments of the summer swim season.  The awards should have been the highest priority of the evening and presented using the public announcement (PA) system before the sun went down.   Unfortunately, the actual awards were overshadowed by the elections of the 2009 Executive Board.  This was NOT our typical end-of-the-year event.

The Board accepts responsibility for the events and will review the election processes to determine if they were in accordance with the team bylaws and Robert’s Rules of Order.  It will be discussed at the upcoming Executive Board where I feel confident that the RIGHT decisions will be made. I will keep you posted.

Again, I apologize the confusing evening.

Res,

Bob Dodson

Hi Wahoo Families,

I have the trophies and medals for those of you who were unable to attend last night’s picnic.  Please email me and make arrangements to pick up your things (Garcia and Elsbury – I gave your trophies to the Spangler family.  Please make arrangements with them to pick them up).  Also,  I placed all the ribbons from finals in the Wahoo folders.  I will return the box of folders to the pool tomorrow.   I still have a few photo packages as well – DeFeo, McGregor, and Papas – please email me so that I can get these to you.  Thanks so much!  Stacey

Wahoo Families,

Last night I was not able to thank everyone who went above and beyond for this team, as I have in the past and I could not live with myself if it was not done.  First, I would like to thank Eric Law for the last two years of non-stop dedicated service to this team.  When the President of our team, Bob Dodson,  who always ran meets for us was called to Kuwait by the military,  Eric selflessly stepped in and made this team run.  My job and this team were able to function because he stepped up.  THANKS!

Also, Bonnie Hendrickson and Nicole Southern.  Bonnie and Nicole worked tirelessly on getting donations and organizing concessions for finals.  You may not realize how much letter writing, phone calling, and driving these two women did to pull this off.  Although I do not have the total dollar amount of the donations we received, you can tell by the thank you banner, they were substantial.  To top that off they also worked into the dark on Friday night, logged a 16 plus hours the day of Finals,  not to mention the hours spent working the weeks before.

There are not enough thank you's for these three people.  So, I just want to thank you for your dedication and selflessness!  From the bottom of my heart I will never forget any of you!  Traci

Wahoo Families,

I want to thank all of you for my wonderful gifts.  I did not want to appear unappreciative last night but my thoughts were of the children receiving their trophies and we were under a real time and light constraint.  I love all of them and it was so thoughtful of you to do that for me.  I am going to miss all of you terribly.  I will be on the board until December and have also promised Stacey I will help her transition into the position. Do not be surprised to see me on the pool deck and at the meets next year.  As if not having a child swimming on the team could keep me away.   Thank you again and it was a pleasure knowing each of you.   Sincerely, Traci

Congratulations to Woodland Wahoos Triple Winners!!!

Hi everyone,  An updated volunteer work list was emailed 7-30-08 for finals on Aug. 2.  Unfortunately we still have people dropping from finals at the last minute and I want everyone to be aware of the work schedule.  All underlines are changes. We could use some people to grill in one hour shifts.  If you would like to be kind enough to volunteer our concessions people would be most grateful. Make sure to bring all donations by end of Fridays practice.  We are packing up to go to Curtis Park that night and it is going to be a whirlwind of activity. Friday night at 6:00 CP will be open for all families to set their tents up for the next day.  If you would like to stake your claim on a nice piece of real estate come at 6:00 with your tent. We will be setting up Woodland Wahoo Tent City as usual.  The pool is locked up so your tent should be safe.  If you are able to take some time to help us put up tents, benches and other swim meet items please e-mail me ASAP.  I need a number of how many people are going to help.  Thanks,  Traci Hoehn

Members:  As the summer season nears its exciting finish this weekend, we have been receiving inquiries regarding the year round swim teams.  To best allow you to receive the most accurate information about these local teams, the Woodlands Board has invited representatives of the four local year round swim teams (Sharks Swim Team, QDD, Rays and STAT) to attend this Thursday’s, (July 31, 2008) stroke clinic from 6:45 pm to 7:15 pm to answer your questions about their programs.  If you have any questions about this forum, please feel free to contact me at Treasurer@WoodlandWahoosSwimTeam.org (see email for additional contact info). Parents,  Finals will be here Saturday August 2nd followed by our awards party Sunday August 3rd. We are still looking for donations for concessions if you are able to help.  I do not get to see many of you so I thought an updated list in e-mail form would be helpful.  Your donations are greatly appreciated and if you could e-mail me as soon as possible it would a great help because the concession team is shopping Wednesday.  For everyone who has a shelf item (ie granola bars, pringles) bring them to the pool any day this week and I will get them from you.  If you have a more perishable item bring it towards Friday and I will get it.  I have copied and attached this list just in case it jumbles in e-mail spaceThanks to everyone who have brought their drinks.  If you are still in need of getting them to me please do as soon as you possibly can. We are also in need of volunteers to work 1 hour shifts grilling hamburgers.  If you would like to help us out we will be providing you cold water to drink.   10:30-11:30       11:30-12:30        12:30-1:30       1:30-2:30       2:30-3:30        3:30-4:30
